Lora Sofkovska – Front-End Developer in Iris

Introducing Lora Sovkoska, an alumni student from the web design and front-end academy, who started her career as a front-end developer at Iris. Learn more about Lora and her experience from the academy!

The decision to join the Web Design and Front end Academy at SEDC was driven by my genuine interest in the online world and my desire to play a role in making websites look and function better. The academy’s program seemed like the perfect opportunity to learn how to turn my creative ideas into real web designs that people can use. Plus, with technology moving so fast, I didn’t want to miss the chance to be a part of it all and make my mark online!

Initially, I gravitated more toward design, but as I progressed through academia, I found myself increasingly drawn to the intricacies of coding. I started out with a keen interest in making visually appealing designs, but delving into the world of coding opened up a new direction of creativity for me. Over time, I came to appreciate the power of coding in bringing those designs to life and improving the overall user experience. So while design was my starting point, my journey has led me to really embrace the intersection of design and frontend development, resulting in a comprehensive skill set that I’m truly grateful for.

Working on the project for a real client for Bio422 was an invaluable experience that highlighted the importance of teamwork in turning design concepts into real results. Collaborating with other students and the client not only allowed us to combine our diverse skill sets, but also taught us the importance of effective communication and understanding the client’s vision.

Navigating the project’s challenges together allowed us to learn from each other, fine-tune our design and coding approaches, and ultimately deliver a solution that met the client’s expectations. The Bio422 project demonstrated the power of teamwork in transforming abstract ideas into concrete digital reality. It was a rewarding experience that not only improved my technical skills but also honed my ability to work harmoniously in a team setting.

This academy taught me that the foundation of creating effective websites is understanding the user experience. I learned how to design interfaces that are not only visually appealing, but also intuitive and easy to navigate.

In addition, the academy also equipped me with coding skills that proved invaluable. Learning how to write clean and efficient code was instrumental in turning my design concepts into functional websites. This dual learning experience—combining design principles with coding proficiency—was a catalyst in my journey as a frontend developer, allowing me to bring my creative visions to life in the digital world.
